Cure like with like

Homeopathy has its origins in the Greek: homoios = similar and pathos = suffering. A medicine in homeopathy is selected based on the similarity of the remedy to the symptoms of the disease. The starting substance of the homeopathic remedies is either of plant, animal or mineral origin. Homeopathy looks at the human being as a whole and unique, taking symptoms into account on all levels. For example, altered moods, lifestyle habits or even aversions are taken into account.

“In order to heal gently, quickly, reliably and permanently, choose in every case of illness a medicine that can provoke a similar suffering (ὅμοιον πάθος) to the one it is intended to cure!” Samuel Hahnemann

The German doctor and pharmacist Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) discovered the homeopathic method of healing, developed it and used it with great success. Since then, many homeopathic remedies made from plants, minerals and animal poisons have been tested and described in drug tests and are now available to us as medicines. All of these medicines are diluted and shaken in various steps - in technical terms this is called "potentization". The medicines are available in different potencies - they are selected based on the symptoms.
Here is an example: A child with a sudden high fever, a bright red and hot head, glassy eyes, cold hands and feet and feverish fantasies resembles the symptoms of belladonna poisoning. If this child is treated homeopathically with belladonna (deadly nightshade), these symptoms disappear fairly quickly and the child becomes healthy again.
